The dreaded holiday weight gain…we all know what it is and most of us fall victim to it every year. Yep, that extra 5-10 lbs we habitually put on every year and then have to fight to get it off! Well, what if we could avoid the holiday weight gain?

Here are Some Tips for Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain:

Track What You’re Eating

Whether you decide to use an app or go old school with a pen and paper, tracking what you eat can help you to realize what you are putting into your body and help avoid consuming too many calories.

Get Moving

During the holiday season, you are probably eating more calories than normal. As a result, it is important to get more exercise to help combat the surge in daily calories. Start small, aim for a 30-minute walk every day.

Know What You’re Eating

Before you grab those holiday cookies and that glass of eggnog, know what you are eating. With so many mobile apps and tools, it is easy than ever to know how many calories, grams of fat, carbohydrates, sugars, etc. are in foods before you eat them.

Weigh Yourself

A great way to avoid the pounds from creeping up is to weigh yourself on a regular basis. Try not to go overboard…weighing yourself multiple┬átimes a day is not necessary. During the holiday season aim to weigh yourself 1-2 times a week.

It’s Okay to Splurge Occasionally

During the holiday season, it’s okay to splurge occasionally. Whether it’s Thanksgiving or a big holiday dinner, one day is not going to make or break that number on the scale. It is what you do every other day of the year that counts.

Watch the Alcohol

Unknowingly we may be consuming a ton of calories in those adult holiday drinks. Whether it’s spiked egg nog or red wine be aware of how many calories are in the one drink before downing 2-3 of them.
